Frequently asked questions

Tutoring in Windhoek — your questions answered

Everything parents usually ask before booking a maths or physics tutor: grades, rates, session length and exam preparation.

The basics

About Scholar House

What does Scholar House do?

Scholar House is a maths and physics tutoring hub in Windhoek, Namibia. We tutor maths and science for Grade 6 to 8 (Years 7–9), and maths and physics for Grade 9 to 11 (Years 10–12) on IGCSE and NSSCO, or maths only on CAPS and IEB. Lessons are individual or in groups of maximum 4, at 1@Steps Building, Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek.

Which grades do you tutor?

Grade 6 through Grade 11, which is Year 7 to Year 12 in the British system. Maths runs across all six grades; physics runs from Grade 9 for IGCSE and NSSCO learners.

Which curricula do you follow?

IGCSE, NSSCO, CAPS and IEB. IGCSE and NSSCO learners in Grade 9 to 11 are tutored in maths and physics; CAPS and IEB learners in those grades are tutored in maths.

Do you tutor subjects other than maths and science?

No. Keeping the practice narrow is deliberate — it is why we can teach these subjects to exam standard rather than covering everything superficially.

Where are you based in Windhoek?

We are at 1@Steps Building, Kleine Kuppe, Windhoek — easy to reach from Olympia, Pioneerspark, Klein Windhoek, Ludwigsdorf, Auasblick and the CBD.

Practical

Sessions, rates and booking

How long is a tutoring session?

60 minutes. Shorter sessions rarely leave enough time to both diagnose and repair something properly.

How much does tutoring cost?

Rates depend on the grade, session length and whether lessons are one-on-one or in a small group. See our packages page or WhatsApp +264 81 701 5671 with your learner's grade and we'll send the current rates.

One-on-one or small group?

One-on-one for learners with real gaps, groups of maximum four same-grade learners for those who are broadly on track and want more practice.

How do I book?

Send a WhatsApp to +264 81 701 5671 with the grade, subject and what's going wrong. We'll reply with availability and rates, usually the same day.

Learning

Progress and exams

My child says they're just bad at maths. Is that a thing?

Almost never. What looks like an aptitude problem is usually three or four specific unfixed foundations, plus enough failed tests to make the learner stop trying. Fixing the foundations usually fixes the attitude too.

How long before we see an improvement?

Confidence typically shifts within three or four sessions. Marks tend to move over one to two terms, depending on how far behind the learner is and how consistently they work between sessions.

Do you prepare learners for IGCSE, NSSCO, CAPS and IEB exams?

Yes. Exam preparation uses past papers written under timed conditions and marked against the official mark scheme, with revision time directed at whatever the papers expose.
